LAMBERHURST GOLF CLUB
The 2011 Teise Trophy
Lamberhurst Golf Club, on Bank Holiday Monday, was once again the venue for the prestigious Teise Trophy, an event that holds Kent Order of Merit status. The 42-strong field included the best amateur low handicappers in the county all ready to do battle over 36 holes.
16-year-old Joe Curtis, having grabbed the opportunity to enter after a late cancellation, provided the surprise of the morning. He managed to beat his dad, Dan, by a single stroke. Dad though, had his revenge in the afternoon when he shot a brilliant four under par 68, easily the best round of the day. Both father and son finished in the prizes.
Lamberhurst member, 2 handicapper Alan Austin, again reaped the benefit of local knowledge by carrying off the best nett prize over the whole day. Other local members, Leigh Ferris, Peter Edmondson and Gary Collins all acquitted themselves well, finishing just outside the prizes.
The overall winner, another late entry, was Charlie Wilson from Littlestone who shot a magnificent 36-hole total of 142. Charlie was literally the last contestant to come in off the course and his score just pipped Matt Williams of Sittingbourne.
This event is growing in stature year after year. Players and visitors alike made a number of complimentary remarks about the course and the club’s organisation.
The final results were as follows:
First Place Gross: Charlie Wilson (Littlestone) - 142
Second: Matt Williams (Sittingbourne) - 143
Third: Rob Gardiner (Kingshill) - 146
